A Weigh In Motion (WIM) system for detecting dynamic strain variations in a bridge, comprising a plurality of strain sensors and a plurality of brackets arranged as a plurality of detection nodes; each sensing node comprising: a first of the brackets comprising a first connector and a first base attachable to the bridge at a first location; a second of the brackets comprising a second connector and a second base that is attachable to the bridge at a second location; wherein the first location and the second location are spaced apart by a distance B and define a measuring section between them; and one of the strain sensors that extends between and is secured to the first and second connectors by rigid fasteners that are spaced apart by a distance A and define a sensing portion therebetween so as to form a spring connection between the first and second connectors wherein the spring connection is expanded and compressed to allow the strain sensor to provide an output signal that depends on the relative position of the first and second connectors.
