A stand for an optical observation device (17) comprises a support arm (15) for carrying the optical observation device (17), the orientation of which can be changed with respect to the vertical, and at least one holding device (1, 13) on which the support arm (15) is attached. The holding device (1, 13) contains at least one parallelogram linkage (21A-D, 25A-C, 31A, 31B) made up of links, in which one of the links (31A) can be changed in length. Changing the orientation of the support arm (15) with respect to the vertical can be brought about by changing the length of the handlebar (31A) which can be changed in length.
