The invention relates to a method for stimulating the growth of a biomass which is mixed with a liquid within a bioreactor (11; 21) by means of ionizing radiation. The following process steps are used: a) applying a first partial volume (15; 25) of the liquid in the bioreactor (11; 21) to ionizing radiation, the first partial volume (15; 25) being a maximum of 10% of the liquid volume (12; 22) in the bioreactor (11; 21); b) mixing the first partial volume (15; 25) of the liquid which is exposed to ionizing radiation with the second liquid partial volume in the bioreactor (11; 21) which has not been subjected to ionizing radiation; c) Repeating process steps a) and b) a number of times, each partial volume of the liquid in the bioreactor (11; 21) being subjected to a statistical average of a total radiation dose of at most 50 Gy.
