The invention relates to a hydraulic trailer brake system (10) for a material handling machine, comprising: a brake cylinder (16) which can be actuated by means of a brake fluid and which actuates a brake of a trailer (14) of the material handling machine, - a pressure accumulator (22) which acts on the brake fluid, and a relay valve (24) for controlling the application of the brake fluid to be supplied to the brake cylinder (16) by means of the pressure accumulator (22) as a function of a pressure prevailing in a service brake line (26) of a towing vehicle (12) of the material handling machine.
