A security element (11) for use in a security document (10) is described. The security element (11) comprises at least two layers (1, 2) firmly connected to one another. At least two layers (1, 2) each comprise a number of structural elements (21, 22), with at least one first structural element (21) of a first layer (2) in at least one further layer (1) being one of the first structural elements (21) there is a spatially assigned structural element (22) which has a different appearance than the first structural element (21) of the first layer (2).
