The invention relates to a method for stopping a motor vehicle (10) in a stopping position (24) during a stopping phase (c), in which the motor vehicle (10) is stationary at the stopping position (24) and in which a rolling movement of the motor vehicle (10) is to be prevented, an electric machine (11) with a rotor (12) and with a stator (13) having a stator winding (14) being provided in the motor vehicle (10) for a traction drive. The invention provides that while the motor vehicle (10) is in the holding position (24), the stator winding (14) is kept short-circuited in whole or in part by means of a short circuit (K) and by means of the short-circuited stator winding (14) a rotary movement (25) of the rotor (12) is counteracted by a counter-moment (27) made possible by the short-circuited stator winding (14).
