In the lathe system, a lathe, a cable, a power converter, and a power source are electrically connected to each other, and the power converter includes a current sensor configured to measure the current of a connection path between the lathe and another device, and a control unit configured to set a switching state based on an output of the current sensor. Aspects relate to a diagnostic device and a diagnostic method for diagnosing the condition of a lathe system without additionally installing a current sensor. The diagnostic device of the lathe system includes a diagnostic unit for diagnosing the state of the lathe system based on an output of the current sensor.
