An essentially automatically working lance holder 1 has a lance holder housing 3, in which the clamping sleeve 4 is shifted via the hand lever 6 or the toggle lever 5 into a first position, where the clamping balls 8 are displaced via the bevel 9 against the outer wall of the oxygen lance tube 2 and be pressed against them. When the hand lever 6 is moved further into the second position, the clamping sleeve 4 with the pressure sleeve 7 and the pressure piston 14 are pushed further in the direction of the shut-off valve 10, this shut-off valve 10 being opened at the specified time and to the specified extent by the targeted movement of the oxygen lance tube 2 . The oxygen gas present can now flow in the direction of the oxygen lance tube 2 and through it. The shut-off valve 10 is accommodated as an independent structural unit in the shut-off valve housing 36, which thus forms a structural unit with the lance holder housing 3. Connection work or disconnection work on the two housings is therefore not necessary. A slag backflow protection housing 41 can be coupled to the shut-off valve housing 36 or the lance holder housing 3, in which an output valve 45 / input valve 42 that can be addressed via a heat sensor 43 is arranged.
