A direct-to-object printer includes a slide arm that moves a plurality of printheads across a flat member for printing objects on the flat member and that rotates the plurality of printheads after the printheads have passed over the flat member. The printer then moves the slide arm in the opposite direction across the flat member to print another portion of the objects on the flat member while maintaining the same order of print heads.
