Magnetic field sensors and detection methods are provided. A magnetic sensor module is configured to measure a magnetic field, the size of which fluctuates between a first extremum and a second extremum. The magnetic sensor module includes a magnetic sensor that is configured to generate measured values in response to a detection of the magnetic field, and a sensor circuit. The sensor circuit is configured to generate a measurement signal on the basis of the measurement values, to compare the measurement signal with a switching threshold, to generate a pulsed output signal which has pulses which are generated on the basis that the measurement signal exceeds the switching threshold, measure a first characteristic of the measurement signal, update an offset of the switching threshold according to an offset update algorithm based on the measured first characteristic of the measurement signal, and selectively activate and deactivate the offset update algorithm based on at least a second characteristic of the measurement signal.
