During the machining of a workpiece, a gripping force setting device takes into account the state of machining and the state of the workpiece to determine a more appropriate gripping force. The gripping force setting device acquires data indicating a machining state performed by a machine tool and data relating to a gripping state on the workpiece by a jig, and generates data for use in machine learning based on the acquired data. The gripping force setting device then performs machine learning processing on the basis of the generated data with respect to the gripping force that is applied to the workpiece by the clamping device in the environment in which the machine tool processes the workpiece.
