a stirrer for stirring powder within a powder flow path of a device for the manufacture of three-dimensional objects, the stirrer being configured to rotate at least partially within the powder flow path, with at least one substantially rectangular lead from the stirrer to the outside; and with at least one lead so arranged, it touches the powder during at least partial rotation of the stirrer and gives the powder, during at least partial rotation of the stirrer, an overall axial force of essentially zero,so that at least partial rotation of the stirrer keeps the powder in a free flowing state within the powder flow path.
