The subject of the invention is a device and a method for protecting a door lock of a motor vehicle against being broken into. The lock can be operated by a lock (2) via a rod (4) of axial extension (A1), the ends (4a, 4b) of which are connected respectively to the lock (2) via a first connecting member (5a) and to a mechanism (3) for operating the lock (1) via a second connecting member (5b). The rod (4) is flexible between its ends (4a, 4b) and is integral with the latch (2) via the first connecting member (5a). The rod (4) is retractable from said mechanism (3) via an attachment of the rod (4) to the second connecting member (5b) installed on the mechanism (3), which is capable of being broken under the effect of a tensile force (T2) resulting from a bending (F1) of the rod (4).
