The invention relates to a method for learning a fuel richness correction of a cold heat engine at a temperature below a predetermined minimum operating temperature of a richness probe positioned in an engine exhaust line. A learned cold correction (Cor f ap) is calculated according to a learning operation occurring when the engine is started after a learning control element (UD) has issued a learning authorization (Aut App) according to a condition representative of a cold engine. The learning authorization (Aut App) is not issued when at least one inhibition condition (Cond Inh) representative of a maceration in the engine for which at least one coolant, one fluid engine lubrication temperature and an air temperature admitted into the engine have stable temperatures in correspondence with a prevailing outside temperature within a range of less than 20%.
