A dirt separator for a vacuum cleaner comprising a chamber 36 having an inlet 37 through which dirt-laden fluid enters and an outlet 38 through which cleansed fluid exits the chamber 36. A disc 40 located at the outlet rotates about a rotational axis 48 and comprises holes through which the cleansed fluid passes. The inlet 37 is defined by an end of an inlet duct 21 that extends within the chamber 36 and a flange 60 extends outwardly from the inlet duct 21 in a plane normal to the rotational axis 48.
