The ventilation assembly includes an upper member 20 mounted on a base 18 so as to be movable laterally between first and second positions, the base including an engagement formation 22 extending along one side and a cover strip 24 extending along the other, the cover strip being engagable with an engagement formation on an adjacent tile, where in the first position the upper member is clear of the base engagement formation and at least partially overlies the cover strip, and in the second position the upper member partially overlies the engagement formation and is clear of the cover strip. The upper member may have projections movable along elongate slots 40 in the base. The projections may be bosses through which nails can extend to mount the assembly to a roof. Together the bosses and slots may permit lateral sliding between the base and upper member. The assembly may resemble a pair of tiles, and be made of plastic such as PVC. The base and upper member may be snap fitted together.
