Generating audio for a given location in a virtual environment corresponding to a real environment used for capturing audio content. This is achieved by determining the given location in a virtual environment for which sound is to be generated before identifying sound sources in the virtual environment corresponding to respective sound sources in the real environment. This is followed by generating sounds corresponding to the identified sound sources in dependence upon the relative positions in the virtual environment. The audio is then output. There is a further aspect relating to the capture of audio content for reproduction in a virtual environment corresponding to a real environment. This is achieved by capturing the audio content in the real environment, capturing image content of the real environment and then separating the captured audio into one or more tracks corresponding to one or more sound sources. This is followed by determining the location of the one or more sound sources in the environment.
