A dental cleaning appliance includes a handle 18, a fluid reservoir 94 for storing a working fluid, and a fluid delivery system. A motorised drive unit drives movement of a bristle carrier relative to the handle. At least part of an inlet conduit 78 of the fluid delivery system lies adjacent to the external surface of the motor 70, and at least part of an outlet conduit 82 of the fluid delivery system extends through the motor. Preferably the outlet conduit extends through a driven shaft 72. The motor is preferably mounted in an end section 36 of the handle (proximate the brushing end) which is narrower than the grip section of the handle. The fluid reservoir may be mounted on a seat 74 located between the grip section and the end section of the handle. The inlet conduit may extend from the seat towards a pump in the handle.
