PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an anti-fungal anti-bacterial agent that is a contact type or non-contact type by utilizing steam and has an anti-fungal anti-bacterial effect, has excellent smell quality and smell intensity, and has little residual smell once adhered to clothing etc.; and a method for suppressing the occurrence of fungi or bacteria by using the same.SOLUTION: Provided is an anti-fungal anti-bacterial agent characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, a monohydric alcohol solely comprising 9 carbon atoms, 1 oxygen atom and hydrogen atom and having 2 or more branched alkyl groups, and in which said active ingredient preferably is a monohydric alcohol having 2 or 3 branched methyl groups.SELECTED DRAWING: None
