PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cell viability discrimination method and a cell viability discrimination kit which can be easily evaluated using a highly safe dyeing agent and which can continuously evaluate the same specimen for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The method includes a step of contacting a cell with a staining agent for staining dead cells, and a step of determining whether the cell is live or dead depending on the presence or absence of staining of the cell, wherein the staining agent is a red yeast rice pigment or an anthocyanin pigment.
