Gap junction intercellular communication modulators and their use for the treatment of diabetic eye disease

Disclosed is the use of Gap Junctional Intercellular Communication (GJIC) modulators in the treatment or prevention of diabetic eye disease, and more specifically to prevent apoptosis of retinal endothelial cells and to prevent pericyte loss. Their use for the treatment or prevention of early diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema is disclosed.
