Process for liquefying methane gas in which: - in a first exchanger, the flow of methane gas is cooled, in counter-current, by heat exchange with a flow of nitrogen gas coming from a phase separator flask , - the methane gas flow is transferred into a second counter-current exchanger, - the liquid nitrogen flow is transferred from the source of liquid nitrogen to the phase separator flask, - the separator flask is applied to phases a temperature higher than the temperature of the triple point of methane and a pressure so as to produce a flow of liquid nitrogen and a flow of nitrogen gas, - in the second exchanger, the flow of methane gas is liquefied by vaporization of the flow of liquid nitrogen by producing a flow of vaporized nitrogen, - the flow of vaporized nitrogen is transferred to the separator flask. - Transfer and then store the flow of liquid methane in a storage tank.
