The invention relates to a method for determining characteristics of an energy store, wherein output current and output voltage of the energy store are detected, more particularly are variables detected in this manner, wherein a first of the two variables is fed to a plant model, the second of the two detected variables is fed to a control structure, wherein the plant model produces a modelling value for the second variable and this modelling value is fed to the control structure, wherein the control structure determines estimated values of the characteristics which are specifeid to the plant model.
