Described herein are compositions and methods for diagnosing, imaging, and quantifying non-calcified atherosclerotic plaque. Embodiments of the compositions described herein include, in addition to other carbohydrate molecules, mannosylated dextran compounds that include, for example, diagnostic agents and moieties. The compounds and methods embodied herein provide excellent localization and results for imaging, anatomically locating and quantifying non-calcified atherosclerotic plaques.
