The number of beams that can be combined in an optical fiber is increased using an emission beam with a larger divergence, and thus can provide increased beam power. Alternatively, a fixed number of emitters can be used to maintain the total optical power with a smaller number of beams in the output beam with a smaller numerical aperture.
