The method involves positioning orientable strips such that the orientable strips extend parallely to a visually detectable horizontal plane in a reproducible manner. The current position of the orientable strips is recorded as a single reference position. An extreme orientation position of the orientable strips or a position of the strips relative to a mechanical tilter (8) is determined from the reference position based on adaptable dimension data such as thickness and height of the strips, diameter of a winding tube (3) and/or dimensions of the tilter. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a motorized roller blind installation (2) a control unit for controlling an actuator of a motorized roller blind installation, comprising an actuator activation control part.
