A device for controlling a cable transport installation of the type comprises a controller capable of organizing a boarding period of nominal duration (Tn_max) for vehicles in the station. This boarding period (Tn_max) ends with a ban on access to the vehicle. The controller includes an input for receiving at least one quantity representative of a vehicle occupation. The controller is arranged to react to the reception of such a quantity during the boarding period (Tn_max) by comparing it with a threshold value and triggering the prohibition of access to the vehicle in advance, before the end of the boarding period (Tn_max), depending on the result of the comparison between said quantity and the threshold value.
