Given dwindling resources, the Minnesota Historical Society’s Collections and Reference Department wanted to find a way to speak directly to the public and spark interest in our collections without having to rely on marketing, IT, or luck. Not surprisingly, we determined that technology was our best option! This talk will focus on low-cost initiatives that help bring attention to the library collection, both what we have and how people can use our resources.Through frequent blog postings, how-to podcasts, and digitization projects we are able to spread the word about the fantastic (and sometimes hidden) resources we have available and how people can use them. This talk will discuss why we felt it necessary to create this format, what it looks like, and how it functions. We will look at some examples and discuss specific successes and challenges.
