The essay explores the problem of political philosophy in the work of German udphilosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. There are many interpretations of Nietzsche, who udhas come to be one of the most influential thinkers in human history. However, vari"udous interpretations of Nietzsche seem to neglect the significance of political dimen"udsion of his thought. It is partly due to the fact that Nietzsche’s thought was abused udduring the Nazi era and suffered from political misappropriation. udThe author contends that a genuine attempt at understanding Nietzsche’s udthought has to take account of his philosophical and political intention. In the first udpart of the article the author analyses Nietzsche’s diagnosis of modernity, especially udhis understanding of modern state, education, and historical malady. The second udpart tries to illuminate the apparently contradictory elements of his mature thought, udnamely the doctrine of superman and the doctrine of eternal recurrence of the same. udThe article discusses in a more detailed way the interpretation of Nietzsche’s udthought proposed by American political philosopher Stanley Rosen. It makes uda strong case in behalf of Nietzsche as Platonic political philosopher. The role of phi"udlosopher as a prophet and lawgiver is discussed against the backdrop of Nietzsche’s udphilosophical entanglement with the European Enlightenment which has arrived at uda point in which it turns against itself.
