Application of the Quality Functional Deployment Method in Mobility AidSecurement System Design

The report describes the Quality Functional Deployment (QFD) Method's use indeveloping design specifications, focusing specifically on the problem of mobility aid (wheelchair, three wheeled scooter, etc.) securement on transit vehicles. QFD is a process with six steps: identifying the customers, determining customer requirements, establishing the importance of the requirements, benchmarking the competition and other alternatives, translating customer requirements into measurable engineering requirements, and setting engineering targets for the design. The report then traces the application of the method to mobility aid securement, allowing a design team to approach complex problems in a systematic and orderly manner.
