Murine Hox-2.3 Gene: Expression and Regulation in Embryos (Hox-2.3 Gen in deMuis: Expressie en Regulatie in Embryo's)

The thesis describes the expression and the regulation of the Hox-2.3 gene. InChapter 1 a detailed description is given of Hox genes and the striking similarities in structure, expression patterns, chromosomal organization and even in function between these genes and their homologues in Drosophila and in vertebrates. In Chapter 2 the expression pattern of the Hox-2.3 gene is described. Using in situ hybridization Hox-2.3 transcripts are visualized in the extra-embryonal mesoderm (allantois) of 7.5-day embryos. In Chapter 3 the identification of a kidney-specific regulatory element in the intergenic sequences between Hox-2.4 and Hox-2.3 is reported.
