摘要

The specific aim of 'Generation to Generation: Project Self-Esteem' was to create a replicable and workable model for an intergenerational day care program that addressed the social, psychological, and educational needs of young black self-care children and the psychosocial needs of black elderly. The needs of these two generations comprised the two complementary components of the program. Thirteen black children(8M-5F), ages 6-11 were involved. There were ten elderly (2M-8F), ages 62-90. The project identified two intergenerational populations which appear to be extremely vulnerable, 'young black self-care/at risk children' and 'older adults experiencing widowhood'; both need special nurturing. The older adults identified in the grand emerged as needing socialization, meaningful tasks to routinely perform and recognition as important resources with the latter appearing to be of extraordinary importance.
