Universal Access System (UAS) Project Plan: FAA Technical Center NAS SecurityResearch Program

The Universal Access System (UAS) Project Plan details the type and level of theR&D effort necessary to identify, develop, and test a nation-wide UAS. The UAS would be designed to enable air carrier personnel who regularly require access to secured areas to assess such areas with minimal operational delay while enhancing the existing airport security posture. The plan presents three fundamental R&D approaches to this project requiring varying degrees of R&D effort and resources. The standard R&D approach is presented in detail with associated costs and schedule. The three major R&D stages are defined; the UAS concept and alternate analysis stage, the Prototype Conceptual Design and Procurement Stage, and the Prototype and Development Stage. The individual tasks involved in each stage are also discussed.
