The final performance report concerned the occupational medicine training programfor physicians offered at the University of Pittsburgh. After a period of inactivity, the occupational medicine residency training program was reinitiated in 1983; a NIOSH Training Grant was acquired in 1986. The primary purpose of the Occupational Medicine Residency has been to prepare physicians for the full time practice of occupational medicine. In its most recent years the program at the University has maintained its full quota of six residents. The availability of training grants has also increased the ability of the program to secure other sources of funding to support the residency. The research focus has expanded from its historical strengths in industrial hygiene, radiation health and toxicology, to include an emphasis on the molecular basis for environmental and occupational toxicology.
