摘要

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Integrated Terminal Weather System211u001e(ITWS) is supporting the development of products important for air traffic 211u001econtrol in the terminal area. Some ITWS products will allow air traffic managers 211u001eto anticipate operationally significant short-term (0-30 min) changes in ceiling 211u001eand visibility (C&V) and aircraft separations necessary to avoid encounters with 211u001ewake vortices. Development of such products exploits data that will by available 211u001efrom new FAA terminal area sensor systems. These sensor systems include Terminal 211u001eDoppler Weather Radar (TDWR), Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD), the 211u001eMeteorological Data Collection and Reporting System (MDCRS), and the Automated 211u001eSurface Observing System (ASOS). A Dynamic Atmospheric Vertical Structure Nowcast 211u001eSystem (DAVS-NS) is being developed that will add value to ITWS by providing 211u001ecurrent analyses and short-term forecasts of the vertical atmospheric structure 211u001efocused at specific sites within the terminal domain. This report summarizes the 211u001einitial evaluation of the Oregon State University one-dimensional boundary layer 211u001emodel for its potential role within a DAVS-NS.
