Evaluation of Photodissociation Coefficient Calculations for Use in AtmosphericChemical Models

The chemistry of the atmosphere is strongly influenced by solar radiation, Inaddition to the obvious heating effect, solar radiation at visible and ultra-violet (UV) wavelengths drives atmospheric chemistry by photodissociating relatively stable molecules into usually highly reactive fragments. Photodissociation coefficients (J-values) describe quantitatively the frequency of atmospheric photolysis reactions, and therefore it is important to calculate them accurately. We have examined a number of outstanding problems in the calculation of J-values.
