摘要

The goal is to analyze and determine the need for care and services available toolder populations of Mexican descent in the United States. Some of the basic hypotheses that initiated the project are the demand by and methods of providing services to older populations of Mexican origin in the U.S., and the way these processes are influenced by social, economic, and cultural factors originating from the family structure and Mexican culture. The focus groups were conducted in the following cities in the U.S.: San Diego, El Paso, and Denver. In Mexico, in Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, and the City of Zacatecas, also in semi-urban area of Jerez and the rural community of Carrillo Puerto, both in the State of Zacatecas. The study was conducted by the ADSU Center on aging, and the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF). COLEF became a partner in the study when it became apparent the study would need to span to Mexico. COLEF is a research and graduate policy makers and health-care providers in improving care for older Mexican Americans.
