Role of Turbulent Stresses on Bedload Motion in Gravel Bed Streams

The objectives of this study were twofold. First, to evaluate the role that thedifferent instantaneous stress components play on the entrainment of sediment and second, to provide a quantitative criterion, which accounts for the role of turbulence on the commencement of sediment motion. For this purpose several incipient tests were performed. These tests are classified into two categories: (1) the single particle test, and (2) the multi-particle packing density tests.
