This report summarizes the lessons drawn from a series of twelve focus groups211u001ecarried out in Fall 1996. The groups were conducted as an early stage of a larger 211u001eproject, undertaken on behalf of the USDoT Intelligent Transportation Systems 211u001eJoint Program Office, to appraise the potential customer acceptance for key ITS 211u001eproducts and services directed at individual consumers. The product concepts 211u001eexplored in the focus groups were all applications of Advanced Traveler 211u001eInformation Systems (ATIS). The focus groups had two principal objectives: To 211u001eimprove our understanding of current consumer reactions to these ATIS product 211u001econcepts; and To help develop improved methods for subsequent quantitative 211u001ecustomer acceptance surveys.
