This report on the characteristics of new housing in 1996 is derived from theBureau of the Census' Survey of Construction, Survey of New Mobile Home Placements, and Survey of Market Absorption, which are sponsored, all or in part, by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The report includes sections on the characteristics of single and multifamily housing completed, one-family houses sold, contractor-build houses started, new mobile home placements, and a supplement on the types and characteristics of apartment units completed in buildings having five units or more.
