Evaluation of the Impacts of ITS Technologies on the Borman Expressway Network

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is currently implementing (or211u001ehas implemented) several components of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). 211u001eThis includes a mini Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) implemented on a 211u001ethree-mile stretch of the Borman Expressway to evaluate advanced non-intrusive 211u001esensor systems and the associated communication infrastructure for the 211u001einstallation of a full-scale ATMS on the 16-mile stretch of the Borman 211u001eExpressway. Potential specific ITS technologies that are either being implemented 211u001eor are being considered include pre-trip information, en-route information, 211u001evariable message signs, and Hoosier Helpers. It is expected that the 211u001eimplementation of various ITS technologies on the Borman Expressway will result 211u001ein improved traffic flow, low travel times, higher average speeds, and improved 211u001esafety and environment. This study evaluated the impacts of these ITS 211u001etechnologies on mobility, air quality, and safety on the Borman Expressway and 211u001eits vicinity.
