Experimental Analysis and Analytical Modeling of Bridges with and without211 Diaphragms

The objectives of this study are to evaluate the effectiveness of intermediate211u001ediaphragms in prestressed concrete I-girder bridges subjected to vehicle overload 211u001ecommon among coal haul trucks. In order to achieve these objectives, the 211u001efollowing tasks were performed: (1) field testing of the Southbound bridge (with 211u001eintermediate diaphragms) and Northbound bridge (without intermediate diaphragms) 211u001eon US 23 over KY 40; (2) three-dimensional, static and dynamic finite element 211u001eanalyses of the US 23 bridges; (3) calibration of the finite element models with 211u001ethe field test data; and (4) analysis of the influence of intermediate 211u001ediaphragms.
