Experimental analysis and analytical modeling of bridges with and without diaphragms

Results from experimental field testing ar presented.Static and dynamic testing were completed on two prestressed concrete I-girder bridges,one with intermediate diaphragms and one without intermediate diaphragms,using actual coal haul trucks.Girder and deck stresses as well as girder deflections are examined and compared.Afinite element model which was calibrated with the field test data is described.Recommendations as to the effectiveness of intermediate diaphragms and the need for their continued use are included.
