Stride Forward Woodlawn Block Nurse Program. New Directions in the Woodlawn Block211 Nurse Program

The Block Nurse Program, administered by Stride Forward Woodlawn, was located in211u001eBirmingham Alabama. The staff and steering committee learned many lessons as they 211u001eimplemented the Agency on Aging funded program expansion. Originally the Block 211u001eNurse Program consisted of one part time nurse that worked with elderly and 211u001edisabled area residents. The funds received from the Agency on Aging allowed the 211u001eprogram to increase the hours of the nurse from 20 hours/week to 40 hours/week. 211u001eIn addition, funds allowed that a volunteer recruiter could be hired to recruit 211u001eand train community volunteers to help the elderly in Woodlawn. The steering 211u001ecommittee was able to stretch funds to that 8 quarters of programming was funded 211u001ethrough the Agency on Aging.
