Subsoil compaction is persistent and affects highly productive soils and heavily211u001emechanized agricultural land. About 50% of the European subsoils are moderate to 211u001ehighly vulnerable to a compaction. Data is lacking to run and validate models 211u001eused to assess maximum allowable wheel loads and to predict effects of too heavy 211u001ewheel loads on soil properties, crop growth and environment under a range of 211u001eweather conditions. the Concerted Action was initiated to collect and combine 211u001eexperiences and data on subsoil compaction. An overview of subsoil compaction 211u001eresearch in Western Europe is presented.
