The goal of this research has been the creation of convincing virtual acoustic211u001eenvironments. This consists of three separate modeling tasks: the modeling of the 211u001esound source, the room acoustics, and the listener. In this thesis the main 211u001eemphasis is on room acoustics and sound synthesis. Room acoustic modeling 211u001etechniques can be divided into wave-based, ray-based, and statisical methods. 211u001eAccurate modeling for the whole frequency range of human hearing requires a 211u001ecombination of various techiques, e.g., a wave-based model employed at low 211u001efrequencies and a ray-based model applied at high frequencies. An overview of 211u001ethese principles is given.
