Imports and Exports of Fishery Products, Annual Summary 1999

U.S. imports of edible fishery products in 1999 were valued at $9.0 billion, $840.7 million higher than in 1998. The quantity of edible imports was 1,763,536 metric tons, a 109,258 ton increase from the quantity imported in 1998. Imports of nonedible fishery products were valued at $8.0 billion, $566.2 million higher than imported in 1998. Total value of edible and nonedible products resulted in a record import value of $17.0 billion in 1999, $1.4 billion higher than in 1998, when $15.6 billion of fishery products were imported. U.S. exports of edible fishery products of domestic origin were 864,166 tons valued at $2.7 billion, compared with 733,067 tons at $2.2 billion exported in 1998. Exports of nonedible products were valued at $6.0 billion. Exports of fish meal amounted to 87,312 tons valued at $51.5 million. The total value of edible and nonedible exports was $8.8 billion, $1.1 billion more than in 1998.
