An equation determining the steady-state profile of a liquid meniscus advancing211u001eor receding across a heated plate is derived. The effects of liquid evaporation, 211u001eintermolecular interaction with the plate, and thermocapillarity are included. 211u001eNumerical and analytical estimates of the dynamic contact angle are calculated 211u001efor water and the refrigerant 1,1,1,2 tetrafluoroethane. The dynamic contact 211u001eangle depends primarily on three dimensionless parameters: one proportional to 211u001ethe velocity of the interface, one proportional to the rate of evaporation from 211u001ethe surface, and one proportional to the thermal coefficient of the liquid-vapor 211u001esurface tension.
