Effects of Target Shape and Reflection on Laser Radar Cross Sections

We have derived expressions for the cross sections of some basic objects like211u001econes, paraboloides and cylinders and used some convenient approximations for the 211u001etarget angular reflection from diffuse and specular targets. The laser radar 211u001ecross section and the detailed pulse stretching vs. the shape of the target and 211u001ethe BRDF angular dependence have been evaluated. The results are of interest for 211u001emany laser radar applications like ranging, 3-D imaging/modeling, tracking, 211u001eantisensor laser and target recognition.
