摘要

This report presents the results of a study to determine if skills developed in211u001ecompetitive athletics transfer to driving ability, and whether such transfer is 211u001emediated by gender. To test these questions, the authors compared the driving 211u001eability of male/female nonathletes in high-demand, simulated driving siutations. 211u001eA front-projector simulator was used to create a virtual driving environment. A 211u001efull-sized Honda Accord served as the simulation vehicle. Sensors in the vehicle 211u001emeasured participants' performance and behaviors under different following and 211u001ebraking conditions in eight experimental trials. The report makes recommendations 211u001efor research to further examine the nature of the links among gender, sport and 211u001edriving performance, as well as recommendations for integrating activities that 211u001eenhance perceptual motor skills into driver training programs.
